45 Years of Community, Culture, and Connection

For more than 45 years, the Bangladesh Association of Chicagoland (BAC) has served as a home for Bangladeshis and Bangladeshi-Americans across the Chicago area. Founded in 1980, BAC was created with a simple but meaningful vision: to bring people together, preserve cultural identity, support one another, and build a stronger community for future generations. Over the decades, BAC has grown alongside the Bangladeshi-American population in Chicagoland. What began as a community organization has become a platform for cultural celebration, social connection, education, charitable service, youth engagement, and leadership. Through countless events, programs, and volunteer initiatives, generations of members have contributed their time and energy to making the organization stronger. Culture remains at the heart of BAC's work. Throughout the year, members and families come together to celebrate important Bangladeshi occasions, enjoy music and dance performances, participate in community gatherings, and share traditions with younger generations. These celebrations provide children and young adults with opportunities to experience their heritage while growing up in a multicultural American environment. Community service is another important part of BAC's history. Over the years, volunteers have supported humanitarian causes, responded to disasters, and raised resources for people in need. These efforts demonstrate the organization's belief that a strong community is built not only through celebration, but also through compassion and service. As BAC looks toward the future, its mission continues to evolve. The organization is committed to creating more opportunities for youth, strengthening professional and social networks, encouraging volunteerism, and helping members remain connected to their heritage. The story of BAC is ultimately the story of the people who have supported it for more than four decades. From one generation to the next, BAC continues to bring people together, preserve traditions, and build a stronger future for the Bangladeshi-American community in Chicagoland.
